Jaguar XJ 350/358 Rear Window Sun Shade Issues

The British auto manufacturer, Jaguar, is a well-respected maker of luxury vehicles. The Jaguar XJ third generation as well as the X350 and X358 variations are reliable cars that have given their owners much satisfaction. Produced from 2004 until 2009, these models do sometimes require maintenance and repair.

One nagging problem that has bothered a few owners of the Jaguar XJ X350/X358 concerns the rear window sun shade. Some owners have reported that this sun shade ceased operating soon after the car was purchased. Some owners were able to get the dealership to fix the shade, but it stopped working again soon after.

One solution that has been suggested that may fix this issue is to apply a dry silicon which comes in a spray form. The silicon is sprayed into the corner cavities into which the shade is retracted. By applying the spray to these areas and onto the wheel mechanism this seems to solve the problem at least in the short term.

If applying the dry silicon does not fix the problem and allow the rear window sun shade to retract properly, the next step would be to take the vehicle in for an inspection by a professional foreign car mechanic. While this may not be an issue that poses any safety concerns, it can be a source of annoyance for owners who want their luxury cars to remain fully operational.

If you are the owner of a Jaguar XJ X350/X358 and are having problems with the rear window sun shade, consider taking you car in to an independent Jaguar repair specialist instead of the dealership. This is often times the less expensive option.

Search for a local, independent Jaguar repair shop with Jaguar mechanics that have dealer-level expertise at a fraction of the expense.
